National price & discovery map
Observed published prices, not market estimates. Default prices exclude conditional offers, directory claims and unavailable / upcoming locations.
Price colors: under $75 · $75–99.99 · $100–149.99 · $150–249.99 · $250+. Grey: no comparable captured price. Hatched: fewer than 3 prices for a median. Counts use a separate scale.
Published options & evidence
Enter a five-digit ZIP to find nearby listings. Radius uses approximate straight-line distances between ZIP-area centers, with city centers as a fallback; it is not driving distance. Other filters still apply. The heat map stays visible while you search.

Coverage audit: local, nearby, and gaps
Fixed-site price samples exclude BodySpec host venues. City matches use the listed postal city, not verified municipal boundaries. Townships may overlap incorporated places; CDP populations use 2020 counts.
Methods & limits
Completed scope
The October 6 expansion adds 1,000 unique physical locations to the prior 1,361 records, bringing the index to 2,361 address-grouped discovery records. The additions include 985 locations with published self-pay booking offers and 15 that require a cash quote. Addresses were compared across operators, booking platforms and the existing database; uncertain matches were excluded. This is not a count of companies, scanners, permanent clinics or currently available appointments. At least four address-confirmed operator/platform locations are listed in every state and DC across the two DEXA service types. This minimum does not mean four body-composition locations, four different companies or four priced sites. Area-only duplicates and inactive records are excluded from that minimum. Clicking a state clears other filters and shows every captured listing, including labeled directory leads and inactive records.
Population targets
The 343 incorporated-place targets use the Census Vintage 2025 ranking; 44 additional towns/townships use 2025 minor-civil-division estimates, and 14 large CDPs use 2020 counts. All 401 search results were reviewed for leads. Some gaps remain; absence from this index does not establish absence of a provider.
Census city ranking · Census Gazetteer · Census metro boundaries
Geography
Metro labels use Census locality centroids within CBSA polygons, with a San Francisco correction. They approximate the postal locality, not facility coordinates or travel distance. New locations use operator coordinates where available, otherwise ZIP-area centers. For new postal-city aliases, metro assignment uses the nearest same-state Census place; inherited locality assignments remain as captured. ZIP search uses the 2025 Census ZIP Code Tabulation Area Gazetteer. ZCTAs approximate residential ZIP areas and do not represent every USPS ZIP, including some PO-box-only ZIPs. Nearby-search distances use ZIP-area centers or, when unavailable, city centers; they are approximate straight-line screening distances, not clinic geocodes or travel estimates. Local and metro evidence are shown separately. Co-located operators can share an address group; unresolved duplicate variants may remain.
Out-of-pocket averages
Each service has its own arithmetic mean: use the lowest published non-directory single-scan cash offer at each active, address-confirmed non-host location, then average those location prices. Exclude missing/nonpositive prices, packages, memberships, introductory/eligibility offers, starting prices, directory claims, host venues and inactive records. One location contributes once per service. National means pool locations rather than averaging state means. Platform and chain prices can be correlated. Sample counts, state coverage and capture dates are visible; a small sample is not a representative market average. Fees, interpretation and referral inclusions vary and remain visible in each offer.
Comparable prices
The default is the lowest captured non-directory one-off offer for the selected service. Conditional rates include membership, package, eligibility, introductory and starting offers, with terms and payment amounts alongside them. Starting prices are floors, not exact booking quotes. Clinical and composition services stay separate; the all-services layer uses counts only. Directory prices never determine the map.
Freshness & verification
New reviewed sources were collected October 5–6, 2026; inherited records retain September 30 dates. Operator or platform evidence is published evidence, not a phone-confirmed opening, clinical suitability assessment or completed checkout. Confirm availability, fees, referral requirements and purchase conditions with the operator. Search-lead links in the audit are unverified.
How to interpret gaps
A minimum is an observed offer, not a state's true price floor. Medians require three priced addresses but remain nonrepresentative samples, often with correlated chain prices. Thin-sample labels identify states with fewer than three comparable priced non-host sites for the selected service. Grey or sparse regions reflect missing evidence, not proof that no DEXA service exists.
